PREPARING FOR YOUR BODY COMPOSITION SCAN

OVERVIEW

Body composition assessment provides a detailed and accurate understanding of physical makeup, going far beyond what a simple weight or BMI measurement can reveal.

Instead of focusing only on weight, body composition breaks down the body into its key components: fat mass, muscle mass, bone mass, and water distribution, providing a clear picture of how your body is structured. This level of insight is valuable for anyone pursuing better health, improved fitness, or more effective weight management.

This assessment will take only 35-seconds and provide you with a full report of your current makeup, along with interpretation assistance to help you understand what the numbers mean.

PREPARATION

For best results, consistency in preparation is key.

Use the following guidance to ensure that you prepare yourself properly this time, and for all future scans:

  • Timing
    • Aim to scan at the same time of day each time
  • Food and drink
    • Consume 500ml of water within the hour pre-scan
    • Avoid large meals within the 3 hours pre-scan
    • Avoid caffeine within the 3 hours pre-scan
  • Exercise
    • Avoid strenuous exercise within the 3 hours pre-scan
    • Do not complete a scan post-workout as the fluid changes in the body are inconsistent at this time
  • Clothing
    • Wear comfortable clothing and avoid heavy items such as tracksuit pants and jeans
    • Clothes weight will be accounted for, but t-shirt and shorts/leggings would be best
  • Safety
    • It is not recommended to complete the scan if you have a pacemaker or mechanical heart device fitted as the small, electrical current could cause interference
    • It is not recommended to complete the scan if you are knowingly pregnant as the body experiences many changes throughout this time, and the results may not be accurate
