SCHOOLS & EDUCATION

OVERVIEW

Performance testing and tracking in schools provides students with a practical understanding of their physical capabilities, strengths and areas for development. Unlike traditional fitness testing, which can often feel repetitive or disconnected from learning, contemporary testing can be used as an engaging educational tool to help students better understand their bodies, movement and physical development.

The purpose of performance testing is not simply to produce a score or compare students. It is about helping students understand what their data means and how factors such as strength, mobility, movement, body composition and training influence performance and wellbeing. Students can learn to interpret their results, set goals and take greater ownership of their physical development.

Functional movement assessment is an important part of this process, helping identify movement patterns, limitations or imbalances that may influence physical development. It provides an opportunity to educate students about movement quality, mobility, stability and technique, while identifying areas for further development.

Performance data can also support learning across Health and Physical Education, sport science, mathematics, data analysis and biology. When used with empathy and a focus on individual progress rather than comparison, data becomes a valuable tool for learning, development and lifelong wellbeing.

REAL-LIFE EXAMPLE

STUDENT EDUCATION

A school provided performance testing to their cohort of year 8 students as part of their Health and Physical Education unit.

Students completed a battery of physical assessments in Term 2, where they could then review their own personal data, set their own goals, and develop their own periodisation training program to assist with their personal development.

In Term 4, the students completed the same assessments, where they were then able to evaluate their training programs, identify improvements within the performance data, and explore ways to continue progressions personally.
